Artist. Drawing on his art-anthropological interest in the auditory culture of indigenous peoples, the origins of musical instruments and songs, and ritual performances, Morinaga has conducted fieldwork using sophisticated ethnographic methods enhanced by technology and has created a variety of installation works. His major works include the immersive sound installation *Autoethnography: HAMAKAI* (2026 / ICC Tokyo), an immersive sound installation exploring the theme of self-reflection; the performance piece *Life Entangled* (2025 / TBA Theatre), which offers a multifaceted portrayal of shellac—a secretion from the Indian lac bug; and the sound installation *The Voice of Inconstant Savage* (2024 / Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian); and the multichannel video installation *POLLINATORS* (2020 / Saitama International Art Festival), which meticulously documents the lives of beekeepers and shamans among the Hmong people in northern Vietnam. In addition to his own work, he has also worked as a sound designer and composer, creating music and sound for various feature films, video works, and contemporary dance productions. He currently resides in Lisbon and is an associate researcher at CIEBA, Centro de Investigação e de Estudos em Belas Artes at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
